Project summary 🗒️  

OBJECTIVE

Drive customer engagement and loyalty, proving the value of a New Yorker subscription to both current and potential subscribers through a revamped daily newsletter—The Daily.

RESPONSIBILITIES

I spearheaded the redesign of The Daily newsletter, introducing tools for editors to wield more flexibility and variety. The new and improved newsletter spotlights the top story of the day, curates content in a digestible and skimmable manner, and injects personality through unique illustrations and bookend notes.

THE PROBLEM

The Daily newsletter doesn’t have the flexibility and tooling to support the editorial style and tone of the New Yorker.  

While the team could control which story units appeared, there were limitations on original material and packaging. The goal was to enhance the newsletter, aligning it more closely with The New Yorker's editorial and stylistic identity. 

HYPOTHESIS

The comprehensive redesign of The Daily will deepen reader engagement and increase newsletter subscription rates.

I crafted various templates and tools, empowering editors with more control and flexibility in font and image placement. The new design allows for robust layouts featuring first-person notes, recirculation units, and a variety of section tentpoles that resonate with The New Yorker's tone and aesthetic.

These innovative features and tools help editors guide the reader through the best of The New Yorker every day and provide a way to spotlight significant events during key news moments—with a human touch.

This strategic redesign has not only deepened reader engagement but also significantly contributed to the growth of our newsletter audience. The success of The Daily serves as a testament to our commitment to delivering compelling and personalized content to our readers. The positive outcomes have paved the way for the extension of the new design template to other newsletters, ensuring a consistent and engaging experience across the board.

Building on these positive outcomes, we seamlessly integrated the newly designed templates into our entire suite of 11 newsletters. This extension guarantees a uniform and captivating experience across our diverse range of newsletters, reinforcing our commitment to delivering excellence in every reader interaction.
